Depths  IN PROGRESS

This piece is foremost an electro-acoustic exploration of several algorithms I studied under Dr. Timothy McDunn. The primary algorithm used reconstructs the timbre of one sound with short "grains" of another. The first is typically a sustained pitch and the second is percussive. A handful of envelopes control how the sound morphs over time, often producing haunting effects. I chose to use cello as the live acoustic feature largely for how it lends itself to this algorithm in producing deep rich notes, short pizzicatos, and some ghostly extended techniques. The title has to do with the unknown experienced in deep darkness, deep ocean, or the depths of one's soul. I thought this fit nicely with the idea of exploring the unknown reaches of computer music, as the field is far more expansive than I ever imagined.
