This passacaglia sets a scene from the Slovak folk tale about The King of Time. A poor but kind young man wanders through a snow-covered forest on a bitter winter's eve, climbing Sklený Vrch (Glass Mountain) toward a flickering light at its peak. Drawing inspiration from Slovak folk tunes and some modern minimalists, the piece weaves folkish melodies over a persistent bass line.
